We are very proud to announce that Jill Magid’s film “Tender Balance” (2021) has been acquired by the Guggenheim Museum through a gift from VIA Art Fund.

Filmed in 2020 NYC during the pandemic, this docufiction follows the first iteration of the project “Tender”, a monumental yet nearly invisible public artwork where Magid engraved the edge of 120,000 uncirculated 2020 pennies with the phrase “THE BODY WAS ALREADY SO FRAGILE”, before introducing them into circulation through transactions at NYC bodegas.

The film begins at the US Mint and coin distribution networks. Its focus then shifts to individual moments of exchange, at a time when every touch had its risks ...
