“Cargo, I love you. Or. The odd story of John Frum.â€
Play in one Act.
Written by Adina Popescu. Acting by Alan Page

A Cargo Cult is a type of religious practice that may appear in traditional tribal societies in the wake of interaction with technologically advanced cultures. The cults are focused on obtaining the material wealth (Cargo) of the advanced culture, through magical thinking and religious rituals and practices. ..

John Frum (or Jon Frum, or John From) is a figure associated with cargo cults on the island of Tanna in Vanuatu. He is depicted as an American World War II serviceman, who will bring wealth and prosperity to the people if they follow him.

Adina Popescu wrote a fictional monologue of a contemporary man, who experiences a religious epiphany while waiting for his flight in an international airport. Its spatial condition serves as a metaphor for the closed circularity of the flow of global capital: The closed inner space of the airport creates a closed circuit in the protagonists mind…

The name John Frum is considered a corruption of “John from (America)”, which the natives heard from US GI’s during World War II.
